We assembled a dedicated photo and video team, traveled to East Africa, and coordinated with 15+ local venues to capture content throughout the summit. Our focus was to give Solana and its community a true "boots on the ground" feel, documenting real conversations, live moments, and the people building within the ecosystem.
Traditional GPS is accurate to 2 meters; Onocoy is building the infrastructure for centimeter-level precision for everyone, everywhere. In this project sizzle, Sam, co-founder of Onocoy, details the mission to build the world's largest community-powered GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) reference network. By utilizing blockchain-based token incentives and the high-performance Solana layer-1, Onocoy is transforming GPS from a patchy, expensive corporate service into an affordable, open-access utility for billions of autonomous applications.
Africa is a blank canvas for infrastructure. DePIN allows us to build it from the ground up, owned by the people. In this mini doc, Jonas Hahn from the Solana Foundation's Developer Relations team and Johnny, a Nairobi-based builder, discuss the unique opportunity for Africa to lead the world in Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN). By utilizing the high performance and low costs of the Solana blockchain, local teams are bypassing traditional centralized models to create essential services like energy, internet, and environmental tracking.
Weather forecasts are only as good as the data powering them. Manolis, co-founder of WeatherXM, joins the podcast from Mombasa, Kenya, to discuss the critical need for hyper-local weather data in the Global South. By leveraging Solana and Arbitrum, WeatherXM has built a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) of 10,000 weather stations worldwide, rewarding individual owners for contributing high-quality meteorological data.
Uber built the largest taxi network without owning a car; Natix is building the largest camera infrastructure without owning a single camera. In this presentation, Alireza, co-founder and CEO of Natix, demonstrates how decentralization is disrupting the multi-billion dollar mapping and autonomous driving industries. By crowdsourcing visual data through smartphones and specialized Tesla-integrated hardware, Natix provides real-time "on-street" intelligence that is 10 to 100 times faster and cheaper to bootstrap than traditional centralized models like Google Maps or Waymo.
